An official delegation from the People’s Republic of China visited the Villa Leonardo Gambin Charity’s long term care residence. The Ruian delegation, organized through the Economic Development office of the City of Vaughan, included: Guan Xiuyun, Municipal People’s Government Deputy Mayor; Qian Shian, Ruian Municipal Committee for Aging People Services Deputy Director; Chen Shengquan, Ruian Municipal Committee for Aging People Services Committee Member; and Xia Min, Ruian Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau Translator.
Attending on behalf of the Charity were: Jerry Buligan, Chair; Matthew Melchior, board member and President, Famee Furlane Toronto; Clara Astolfo, board member; Richard Gambin, board member; Paul Flumian, Executive Director; Annette Zuccaro-Vanin, Administrator; and Lois Cormack, President, Speciality Care Inc. Tim Simmonds, Director, Economic Development Department and Sandra Volante of the City of Vaughan were also present.
The official visit incorporated a roundtable discussion as well as a tour of the residence. The discussion focused on three themes: the Villa Leonardo Gambin Charity governance structure and historical perspective; an overview of the long term care health structure within the province of Ontario; and the Charity’s role in enhancing services.
Ruian, China, ranked 39th in terms economic strength, has a population of 1.1 million. It is located on the coast, 500km south of Shanghai and 250km south of Yiwu.
