New York Themed 2012 Oak Leaf Gala Sets Records

The sold out Oak Leaf Gala presented by Tridel Corporation,
in support of the Villa Leonardo Gambin Charity and its long-term care residence, delivered New York City in its 1930s grandeur creating a real a buzz for more than 600 guests in attendance (a record for the event.

Audience totals were not the only records broken on October 27th, net proceeds for the event exceeded $200,000.

Complete with Central Park and carriage, street vendor carts with candy apples and chestnuts and a vintage 1935 Hudson automobile, the ballroom was bejewelled and sparkling with excitement. Painted by a local artist, the entire venue was draped with full views of the New York City skyline, including vistas of the Brooklyn Bridge and lower Manhattan, the Statue of Liberty and the iconic Chrysler Building. Guests were provided with a sumptuous gourmet dinner which had as its focal point a traditional New York 1930’s food fare, brisket.  
 
Gala Co-Chairs, Lea DelZotto Callà and Dawn Melchoir Alexander stayed true to their vision from décor, food and entertainment. While “Liza” belted out Cabaret from the stage, the “Rockettes” with their dance strut brought the crowd to a cheer with their rendition of New York, New York. Tony Paglia and the Nomads were at their very best, keeping guests dancing long into the early morning.
 
“It was wonderful to see such an eclectic mix of people from the beautiful young newbies to the well-established, gather to raise money to honour our seniors,” stated Gala Co-Chair Lia DelZotto Callà. 

“The community spirit exhibited this evening was overwhelming. On behalf of the organizing committee, I would like to thank everyone who has made the 2012 Oak Leaf Gala the most memorable as well as the most successful in its relatively short eleven year history”, stated Gala Co-Chair, Dawn Melchior Alexander.
 
“The Board of Directors of the Villa Leonardo Gambin Charity and I would like to thank the Gala Committee and the dynamic Co-Chairs Dawn Melchior Alexander and Lia DelZotto Callà for their tireless efforts in making this year’s Gala such a success. I would also like to thank all the evening’s sponsors and supporters for their patronage. I am excited to announce that through your generosity, in the Spring of 2013 we will undertake a new expansion to enhance the long-term care home’s east exterior courtyard for the pleasure and use of our residents,” stated Jerry Buligan, Chair, Villa Leonardo Gambin Charity.

Matthew Melchior, President, Famee Furlane Toronto added, “We are extremely proud to have such a “best-in-class’ residence on the campus of the Famee Furlane. The community spirit that was the focal point of the establishment of the Famee Furlane eighty years ago continues to burn brightly and with intensity today.”

In a break from tradition, the Oak Leaf Gala VIP Reception was held on Wednesday, October 17th at the Villa Leonardo Gambin Residence. The event was sponsored by Pristine Printing and the Cheese Boutique. Guests were treated with a selection of wines, cheese and charcuterie. The Gala Committee chose the venue in order to showcase the residence’s recent $1.5 million expansion that would not have been possible without corporate and community support of major Villa Leonardo Gambin Charity fundraising initiatives like the Gala.

10th Anniversary Oak Leaf Gala

Chaired by Matthew Melchior and Dawn Alexander, the 10th Anniversary Oak Leaf Gala provided the nearly six hundred guests present with an exciting and unique experience. Guests, including many leading members of the Vaughan and the Greater Toronto business and professional communities, unanimously agreed that the tenth anniversary gala celebration was unprecedented in flair, energy and gastronomic offering.

Not only did the celebrants thoroughly enjoy the evening, they were able to reflect on the accomplishments of the Villa Leonardo Gambin Charity over the past decade, knowing that they were making a positive impact in the health and well-being of the residents of the long term care residence. This year’s gala raised approximately one hundred and sixty thousand dollars.

Master of Ceremonies, Paul Flumian kept the evening’s atmosphere light and animated. Entertainment during the evening included musical performances by Michael Ciufo and Angelica, special appearance by Brazilian dancers and drummers as well as none-stop playing from a passionate group of musicians, Tony Paglia and the Nomads.

“To those who supported and the presence of those who attended this incredible evening demonstrates an overwhelming expression of commitment in showing love of mankind accompanied with a desire to promote happiness of our elders with special care needs,”  said Dawn Alexander, Gala Co-Chair. “The community united behind a worthwhile cause and the success of our endeavours is evident by the marvellous residence we have created together. The recent $1.5 million dollar expansion is now complete and our seniors enjoying the benefit of the benevolent leaders in our community,” added Co-Chair Matthew Melchior.
